The COVID-19 Health Care Worker Protection Act was recently introduced in Congress to protect frontline healthcare workers by mandating that employers provide safe PPE. Thousands of NYSNA members emailed their representatives asking them to support this bill.

Now, less than two weeks later, hospital executives and their lobbyists at the American Hospital Association are trying to water down the bill and remove some protections for healthcare workers.

This is an outrage. We know hospitals around the state—and the country—have already watered down protections, based on assumed supply shortages, rather than science.

Email your state legislator today to demand a moratorium on healthcare cuts and hospital closures! We are in the midst of a COVID-19 pandemic, and it would be irresponsible for our elected leaders to cut funding to live-saving Medicaid and Safety Net hospitals. Any application to close down a hospital should also be denied: we need all the hospital beds and resources we can get to battle this crisis!
