The ink is barely dry on our contract, and already NewYork-Presbyterian leadership is betraying our members and violating our contract.
We negotiated reimbursement rates for retirees based on the 2023 premiums that non-union NYP staff members pay. These rates and the enrollment form were confirmed during and after negotiations—as recently as Jan. 18! Then on Jan. 20, with a little over a week until the retiree enrollment ends, NYP doubled the cost.
That’s why retirees demonstrated in the NYP lobby for three days, demanding NYP honor the agreed-upon rates. Retirees deserve affordable, quality healthcare and all NYSNA members deserve to be dealt with fairly and honestly.
Use this form to send a message today to NYP CEO Steven Corwin and board members. Tell them to respect retirees and honor our healthcare benefits!
The reimbursement cost was negotiated in the contract so that individual retirees over 60 years of age with more than 20 years of experience would have premium-free healthcare coverage until they reach Medicare-eligible age. Many of these retired nurses have spent a lifetime sacrificing their bodies and health to NYP. They have ended their nursing careers after saving lives during the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic, and some are sick with long-term health issues, including long COVID and musculoskeletal injuries.
It's an outrage that NYP would turn around and double healthcare costs for these retirees who have dedicated so much to NYP.
If this is how the administration intends to treat our members and honor our new contract, they will not get a moment of peace. Stay tuned for other ways to get involved enforcing our contract and supporting our retirees.
